How to get rich betting the 2016 Preakness Stakes

The 2016 Preakness Stakes, the second leg of horse racing's Triple Crown, will be run this Saturday, May 21, 2016, at Pimilco Race Course located in Baltimore, Maryland. Here is a list of possible ways that you could get rich betting the 2016 Preakness Stakes.

Nyquist will likely be the heavy betting favorite for the 2016 Preakness Stakes. If he loses the race the bets listed below should pay a lot of money. Even if Nyquist wins the race, though, the best listed below could all still pay a lot of money too. As noted below, when American Pharoah won the Preakness last year at very low odds of .90 to 1, two of the bets listed below still paid an incredibly high return for very low amounts of money wagered.
Here is a list of longshot horses who could spice up your exotic tickets in the 2016 Preakness. Good luck to all the horses, jockeys, trainers and owners and especially the bettors in the 2016 Preakness Stakes!
1. Bet the Super High Five
To win the Super High Five bet you have to pick the first five finishers in a race in exact order. Not an easy bet to win but if you do hit it you can make a ton of money for a very small bet. The Super High Five bet was introduced in 2009 for the Preakness and since then the bet has paid an average of $30,509 for each winning $2 bet.
That is a huge payout for a very small amount of money. Last year there were not enough horses in the race for the Super High Five bet to take place but this year there are 11 horses running which will be enough for the bet to take place.
2. Bet the superfecta
To win a superfecta bet you have to have the first four finishers in a race in exact order. The superfecta bet was introduced for the Preakness Stakes in 1996. Since then, the bet has paid over $10,000 four times and over $1,000 ten times all for just a $1 wining wager. Those are huge payouts that any horse racing fan would love and it could happen for you in the 2016 Preakness if you hit the bet this year.
Even if Nyquist wins the 2016 Preakness the superfecta could still pay a lot. Last year, American Pharoah won as the heavy favorite in the Preakness and the superfecta bet still paid $1,906.90 for each $1 winning ticket.
3. Bet the trifecta
To win a trifecta bet you have to have the first three finishers in a horse race in exact order. This bet is easier to hit than the Super High Five or the superfecta so it usually pays much less than those two exotic bets but the trifecta can still pay a lot and give you a great return for your money if you hit it.
Since the trifecta bet was introduced for the Preakness in 1987, the bet has paid over $900 for a winning $2 ticket ten times. Last year, even with huge betting favorite American Pharoah winning the race at very low odds the trifecta still paid $985.00 for each winning $2.00 bet. So even if Nyquist wins as a big favorite the trifecta could still pay big in 2016 and make you rich.
4. Bet to show if conditions are right
To win a show bet your horse has to finish the race in one of the top three spots. If you bet to show it does not matter if your horse comes in first, second or third, you will win the bet as long as your horse finishes in first, second or third or what is known as in the money.
Normally, a show bet is not a great way to make money in horse racing betting but when you have a heavy favorite like Nyquist in the race there is always the possibility someone will wager a ton of money on him to show. A track must payout at least 5% for a show bet so a billionaire could wager $10 million on Nyquist to show and collect an immediate $500,000 payout if he is in the money.
But if someone does wager $10 million or more on Nyquist to show and he runs out of the money all the horses in the money will pay high amounts for a $2 show bet. In the past, I've collected as much as $70 on a show bet when someone wagered a lot on a heavy favorite to show and the horse ran out of the money but my horse was in the money. I have friends who have collected over $100 on $2 show bets when the situation described above has occurred.
Last year, even with American Pharoah winning the race as a huge favorite, longshot Tale of the Verve paid $8.80 to show for a $2 wager. Not a fortune but not a bad payout considering there were only eight horses in the race. Had American Pharoah ran out of the money that show bet would have paid a whole lot more.
