We moved to Florida three years ago and inherited a swimming pool with the purchase of our home. Since then, we've taken on a number of gardening and house redecorating projects that left our swimming pool deck in sad need of cleaning.
We tried a number of techniques but found this to be the most helpful way to do the job. Buy a Cool Deck Brush at Home Depot and Attach it to a Mr. Long Arm Pole at Lowe's We tried a number of tools for using to scrub the deck but eventually my husband found a brush rated for Cool Deck cleaning at Home Depot. We purchased a Mr. Long Arm Pole at Lowe's for use while painting the house and for washing the house when prepping it for paint. The end of the pole has an attachment for a hose if desired. The pole opens to about fifteen feet giving you adequate reach if needed. Buy a Quart of Liquid Chlorinating Product from Pinch a Penny Pool Supply The guys at Pinch a Penny recommended Liquid Chlorinating Product for prepping new pools because of its oxygenating properties that kill off plant life. I used it in a 10:1 water to part of the Chlorinating Product placed in a large bucket and used it on a wet surface (this is roughly the proportion recommended when setting up a new pool). This worked really well. Use a Power Wash Nozzle from McLendon's for the End of Your Hose with a Cut off Connector from Home Depot We bought the power wash nozzle in Washington State at McLendon's before we moved to Florida. It basically provides a vary narrow stream of water that is easy to control, but not pressurized like true power washer hoses have that can inflict damage if used improperly. Scrub Like Mad It took me about three hours scrubbing in three different opposing directions to clear any build up from the cool deck surface. It did not remove paint, grease or rust but it did clean the surface. I basically sprayed wet a surface, scrubbed on the mixture of diluted chlorinating product, then rinsed clean with water. It's a large job but one that is only needed maybe once a year.
